"The Chikyu (Earth) Club," an employee-managed volunteer organization to provide assistance to those affected by the Tohoku Pacific Earthquake

We would like to express our heartfelt sympathies to those who have been affected by the Tohoku Pacific Earthquake, which struck on March 11, 2011.
The employee-managed volunteer organization of Sompo Japan Insurance Inc. (hereinafter "Sompo Japan", Kengo Sakurada, President and CEO) known as "The Chikyu (Earth) Club" has made a donation of JPY5 million to the Japan Platform (hereinafter "JPF"*), a non-profit organization.
The JPF is providing funds to support the activities of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that are already engaged in recovery activities in the disaster-affected areas, and through its donation to the JPF, the Chikyu (Earth) Club wishes to cooperate in these activities, with the wish that the region recovers as quickly as possible.
The Chikyu (Earth) Club is also engaged in efforts to collect daily necessities such as towels and tissue paper that can be sent to the disaster-affected areas, and is calling on employees to participate in volunteer activities.
- *The JPF is an international humanitarian assistance organization that aims to implement and provide prompt and effective assistance for natural disaster operations, international emergency assistance and recovery aid, under an equal partnership with various other actors, including NGOs, the business sector, government and media. The donation made by the Chikyu (Earth) Club will be utilized as a source of funding for NGOs that are providing assistance to victims in the affected areas.
All companies in the NKSJ Group are currently engaged in activities to collect donations to provide assistance to the region devastated by the Tohoku Pacific Earthquake and Sompo Japan is also calling on all its employees to participate actively. In addition to the donation made by the employee-managed volunteer organization on this occasion, Sompo Japan will continue to provide assistance to the affected areas.
