Sompo Japan Selected One of 2011 World's Most Ethical Companies- Only Japanese Financial Institution on the List -

Sompo Japan Insurance Inc. (hereinafter"Sompo Japan", President and CEO: Kengo Sakurada) has been selected one of the 2011 World's Most Ethical Companies, making it the only Japanese financial institution of this year's list announced on March 15. This is the second time that Sompo Japan was selected for this honor, which was first received in 2009.

  1. About the "World’s Most Ethical Companies" list
    Since 2007, the "World’s Most Ethical Companies" list has been developed through a survey of a wide range of corporate ethical programs and announced annually by Ethisphere Institute, a U.S. think tank specializing in company ethics and corporate social responsibility (CSR). In this year's list, the top 110 companies has been selected. The survey evaluated 3,000 companies in 38 industries from over 100 countries all over the world according to the following four evaluation categories:
    WORLD's MOST ETHICAL COMPANIES 2011

    (1)Ethics and Compliance Program;
    (2)Reputation, Leadership and Innovation;
    (3)Governance; and
    (4)Corporate Citizenship and Responsibility

  2. Sompo Japan's initiatives
    Sompo Japan established the Environmental Risk Management Office in 1990, and since then each and every Sompo Japan employee has been putting efforts into CSR programs bearing in mind the three keywords of "participation," "perseverance," and "self-motivation." In addition, in 1997 Sompo Japan became the first Japanese financial institution to receive ISO14001 certification for its Data Processing Centre, and through these efforts an environmental management system has been developed based on the Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) cycle. Furthermore, from FY2006, Sompo Japan has endeavored to advance and embed CSR within the Sompo Japan Group, focusing on the four CSR priority issues it has identified: "Adaptation to and Mitigation of Climate Change"; "Risk Management for Safety and Security"; "Development and Implementation of CSR Financing"; and "Community Involvement and Development."Going forward, through the advanced strategies of the company and the proactive actions of each and every employee, Sompo Japan will continue to carry out programs which will contribute towards the resolution of environment issues and the resolution of social challenges.
